Organizational Membership Form Americans Against Fracking Fracking and drilling associated with fracking for oil and natural gas poses a direct and immediate threat to the drinking water, air, food, health, wildlife, climate, and economy of communities across the United States. A number of groups have come together to call for a ban on this dirty practice. Will you join us? As a movement to ban fracking, we have collectively achieved a tremendous amount. In the past year, we have stopped plans to open the Delaware River Basin to fracking, prevented fracking from coming to New York, passed legislation to ban fracking and fracking waste imports in New Jersey, achieved a long term moratorium in Vermont, and passed over 200 local measures to prevent fracking or to support statewide bans from California to Ohio, Colorado to North Carolina and elsewhere. And we’re just getting started. Still, we are up against the oil and gas industry, which is pouring millions of dollars into promoting fracking and supporting elected officials at the federal, state, and local level who continue to promote natural gas as a clean energy source and say that fracking is safe. We appreciate the need for immediate responses to stop immediate harms in communities that are already feeling the impact of fracking. Those efforts are important and demonstrate why, to every extent possible, we should highlight the inherent threats posed by fracking to our air, water, health, and communities, why its impacts cannot be fully mitigated by regulation, and why we should pursue strategies that stop the practice altogether. We need to Ban Fracking Now! Why a coalition? Because in order to win, we need to collaborate more effectively and coordinate more efficiently and strategically to put pressure on elected officials to take a stand against fracking. Much of the work on fracking is happening at the local level, and national groups need to coordinate better to support that work. At the same time, we need to amplify the collective voices of the grassroots groups across the country that want to see an end to fracking and inject the need for a ban into federal policy discussions, media reports and the halls of Congress. What are the goals of the coalition? The goal of the coalition is a ban on fracking. To that end, we support: • Federal, state, and local efforts to ban fracking • Federal, state, and local efforts to institute indefinite moratoriums on fracking • Federal, state, and local efforts to stop frac sand mining • Federal, state and local efforts to stop the development of infrastructure (pipes, export facilities, etc.) that facilitates fracking • A ban on the export of natural gas and oil produced through fracking What will the coalition do? • Coordinate national support for state and local campaigns • Provide a mechanism for communicating the strong national message and movement for a ban to the national media, federal regulatory agencies, and Congress • Create a website that will feature key information and the organizations that have joined the coalition (for examples see Global Frackdown and New Yorkers Against Fracking) What will organizations gain from joining? • Most importantly, a better chance of winning. Only by working together and coordinating our efforts in a real and meaningful way will we defeat the powerful dirty energy interests. • Open up political space for a ban. Separate grassroots efforts have had an immense effect on stopping or slowing down industry, but now it’s time to take it to the next level with a strong unified national call for a ban. • A more powerful voice for the ban fracking message at the federal level. • Opportunities for coordinated support at key campaign moments from national organizations for state and local campaigns. • Regular strategy updates via email and conference calls. • Your organization’s logo and website featured in the list of organizational members on coalition website. • Access to materials and support: fact sheets, stickers, reports, etc. • Promotion of local events hosted by member organizations, depending on capacity. What will member organizations have to do? • Continue the great work already being done against fracking • Commit to fighting for a ban on fracking • Sign up for regular campaign updates from the coalition Who should join? This is a coalition for any organization, group, business or institution that supports a ban on fracking and the goals of the coalition. To that end, we welcome any local, state, or national: • Civic groups • Businesses • Faith institutions • Hospitals or other health institutions • Professional associations • Labor unions • Political clubs • Environmental organizations • Outdoors groups • Social justice groups • Farms, restaurants, breweries, and other food producers Your Name (required) Title (required) Organization Website Address (required) City (required) State (required) AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Marianas IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahVermontVirginiaVirgin IslandsWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyoming Zip (required) Phone Your Email (required) Upload Your Logo [recaptcha]
